The Megapixel Myth

David Pogue in the New York Times: “The actual lesson, then, is this: ‘For the nonprofessional, five or six megapixels is plenty, even if you intend to make poster-size prints.’
“Or, as comment No. 370 put it: ‘For the average consumer trying to decide between 5 megapixels and 8 megapixels on similar cameras, Mr. Pogue’s test might save them a little bit of money and a lot of hard-drive space.’”

Hey, my first Sony Cybershot, purchased in 1999 was only 2.1 megapixels, but even today it turns out beautiful pictures, some even better than my newer 5.1 MP model. You can’t zoom and crop like you can with more MPs, but for 4X6 prints or pictures for the web, you can’t beat it.
Plus, it’s way better in low light with no flash, when you want a nice ambient light shot.
