Practice Resurrection

On June 20, 2007, a fire destroyed several homes and facilities in the poor Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Some of these buildings housed people and ministries for an intentional Christian community called The Simple Way, started by author and activist Shane Claiborne.
Less than one week later, a member of the Simple Way community (Jamie Moffett) has put together this stunning video that tells the story of what happened and what the community is doing now to rebuild. The goal is (in part) to raise money for a rebuilding fund (which will both benefit The Simple Way as well as their neighbors who were impacted by this disaster), but watch and see how the message of the video is not “give money” but rather “catch the vision.” The words of Claiborne are rich and profound: “We did it, and we can do it again! We’ll continue to practice resurrection in the face of a world that continues to create destruction.”
I think there’s a powerful lesson here in how to communicate about an urgent need or even an ongoing ministry project—focus on the mission (not necessarily the need or the dollar amount) and let the rest work itself out. Take a look and see what I mean:
