Happy Tweetsgiving

Here’s an interesting idea: Tweetsgiving. The goal is to raise $10,000 in two days (between now and the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday) to build a new classroom for a school in Tanzania. The method is Twitter (updates on Twitter are called “tweets”) and the social web (using YouTube to spread viral videos, like the one below).
Tweetsgiving is apparently a project of Epic Change, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that “uses the power of stories to create social change.” Although their “gratitude” video turns out to be a bit of a commercial for Post-It Notes (there’s an explanation for that), it’s really well done, and even the concept of using the Post-Its with messages from the kids is a neat one (it might spark some of your own short video ideas, anyway):
Will Tweetsgiving really generate $10,000 in 48 hours for Epic Change and the Shepherds Junior school in Arusha, Tanzania? So far only about 200 people are following it on Twitter, but already they’ve raised nearly $1,500. The power of social media, indeed!
